Balboa Crash Course
Saturday July 15th 1-3pm 2006
This Balboa Dance Workshop will cover basics of this California born Swing Dance. There will be a 1/2 hour open floor for practice following the class (3pm - 3:30pm) The Balboa of this was created in Balboa Island, California during the 1930s. Balboa is built on smooth, tight footwork and is ideal for fast tempos. It is also very adaptable and can be performed to slow music as well. The Balboa originated in a large ballroom on Balboa Island in southern California. It's common belief that when the ballrooms began getting so overcrowded, this dance naturally evolved since there was literally no place to swing out your partner. Swing Dance Experience helpful but not necessary. $30 fee ($20 if you sign up before July 15th)

Tuesday July 11 (Dance Lesson by "P Lindy" Paolo)

Midsummer Night Swing returns to Lincoln Center's Josie Robertson Plaza for its 18th season. This outdoor dance party features a month of dance-filled nights with energetic bands playing everything from swing to salsa and more. Events are schedule from June 20 - July 22, 2005. Dance lessons are included at 6:30 and the bands begin at 7:30pm. You must purchase a ticket to be on the dance floor. more info at www.lincolncenter.org

Balboa Performance Class
Begins Wednesday April 12th 2006 (8 classes total)
The focus of this performance will be the Balboa with some Shag steps included. This will be an amazing opportunity for students to take their Balboa to an entire new level and we expect this class to be quite an adventure as our music will be hawaiian style swing . Our performance will be at Guest Night (Please note the performance date is Friday May 26th, not the 27th. Sorry about the error earlier) . Also, as an added incentive, one leader and one follower from this class will be invited to perform with the Lindy Hop Stars on May 20th. This is a two week (9pm-10:30 ) special in which we will study Collegiate Shag. The steps demonstrated in Paolo’s Charlie Chaplin routine will be demonstrated and taught. The Collegiate Shag is great for fast music and has a particular style that fits the 20’s and 30’s music that the college kids danced to back then. These workshops will help you to capture the style and quickness necessary for this dance. This is the stuff that will take your dancing to a new level.

Marcus & Baerbl Workshops

Internationally renowned swing instructors and performers Marcus and Baerbl are coming to New York and will be hosted by Dance Manhattan to teach one day of swing workshops on Saturday November 12th. They will also be available for privates on the Thursday and Friday prior to this workshop! Marcus and Baerbl have a resume of awards and experience a mile long. They've studied and worked with many of swing's original masters, as well as the 1930's - 1950's movie dancers from Gil Bradley (Don't Knock the Rock) to Frankie Manning (Hellzapoppin).  You won't want to miss this terrific opportunity to hone your skills and expand your horizons.
