From the early days of the Savoy Ballroom and the Harlem Renaissance, to the first air step, to the Count Basie Orchestra, through the 1990's and into Today, Frankie has been there. The New York party for Frankie Manning's birthday will be held Monday June 12th from 5 - 7pm Sandra Cameron Dance Center. It's free and for all fans and friends of Frankie. www.sandracameron.com

Ernestine Anderson
Dizzy's Coca Cola Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center (Broadway at 60th Street)
Thru Sun May 21

Ms. Anderson has recorded more than 30 albums, performed at major jazz festivals, and has received four Grammy nominations. From intimate trio formats to big band, she does it all with seductive sophistication. Few musicians have the experience that she can boast. Featuring Ernestine Anderson (vocals), and the Jiulliard Jazz Orchestra!
Note: although this is not a dance, I'm posting this event because Ernestine Anderson is an absolute must in our music for dancers. She's played by all the best DeeJays on the Lindy Scene and she is one of my all time favorites. If you get a chance to see her, you'll truly enjoy and perhaps the dancers who show up can try to can take over the joint. more details

Saturday March 25 2006 Band: Harlem Renaissance Orchestra

Luther informs us that his Black & White Dance in Harlem will be back Saturday March 25th. The theme is to dress Harlem Hep and dapper. Sophisticated Ladies in vintage dresses will push the envelope of yesterday's fashion as they elegantly stroll in the parade of fashion. Dukes, Earls and Counts with their derbies strategically placed on their heads will Lindy hop, swing and shim sham to the sounds that made Harlem the rage of the 30's and 40's. Beans, CornBread & ButterMilk can and will  bring the Harlem Renaissance to you on March 25, 2006 @ St. Charles on 141 street between 7 & 8 Ave. from 9 PM-2 AM. This is a BYOBB (bring your own brown bag) affair. Prizes will be given in several categories  for the best  dressed male & female who represents the theme of the Harlem Renaissance.
